D.B. Cooper: Into the Night — Level 3

Level 3: The Jump

Somewhere between Seattle and Reno. Shortly after 8:00 p.m.

Into the Darkness

Flight 305 headed south through the Pacific Northwest night.

Behind the cockpit was a man whose real name no one aboard knew. He had $200,000 in ransom money and the parachutes he had demanded in Seattle.

The passengers were gone. Only Cooper and several crew members remained aboard.

Shortly After 8:00 P.M.

Somewhere between Seattle and Reno, Cooper made the move that would transform a hijacking into a mystery that has survived for more than half a century.

He jumped from the back of the Boeing 727.

He took a parachute.

He took the ransom money.

And he disappeared into the night.

Reno

The pilots continued on and landed the aircraft safely in Reno, Nevada.

Investigators could now search the airplane.

But the person they were looking for was no longer on it.

The hijacking was over.

The hunt for Cooper had just begun.

Rabbit Hole

Cooper vanished. But he did not leave the airplane empty-handed — and he did not leave it empty of evidence. What investigators found aboard Flight 305 would become the first pieces of a puzzle that still has no confirmed solution.
