D.B. Cooper: Into the Night — Level 2

Level 2: $200,000 and Four Parachutes

Seattle, Washington. The demands are waiting on the ground.

Waiting Over Seattle

Flight 305 did not immediately land. While the aircraft remained in the Seattle area, Northwest Orient personnel and authorities worked to satisfy Cooper's demands.

The ransom was assembled in used twenty-dollar bills. Four parachutes were also obtained for delivery to the aircraft.

For the people on the ground, the problem was no longer whether Cooper was serious. The problem was how to get everyone else off that airplane alive.

The Exchange

When Flight 305 finally landed in Seattle, Cooper received the $200,000 and the four parachutes he had demanded.

In return, he released the flight's 36 passengers. Several crew members remained aboard.

But Cooper was not finished with the airplane.

Back Into the Air

Flight 305 took off again. Cooper ordered the crew to set a course toward Mexico City.

The aircraft was now carrying far fewer people than before — but also a hijacker holding $200,000 and four parachutes.

Somewhere ahead, Cooper intended to leave the airplane.

Rabbit Hole

Cooper had gotten everything he asked for. Now Flight 305 was back in the darkness — and somewhere between Seattle and Reno, the rear of the airplane was about to become the center of the mystery.
